I’ve passed my standard return timeframes, what now? Extended returns can prove challenging when an institution needs to balance the operational considerations against consumer protection and expectation. Institutions often raise questions such as can I return this Entry? Which return reason code is the most appropriate? Do I need a form? Knowing the answers to these questions is critical for a Receiving Depository Institution (RDFI) to operate compliantly in the ACH Return space. Moreover, the question of consumer vs. non-consumer implications comes into play and we need to ensure we are taking the correct course of action.

In this session, we explore what extended ACH returns primarily addressing the use and requirements of stop payments and written statement of unauthorized debits (unauthorized payments). Some topics we will address include defining extended returns, exploring the use and best practices of stop payment and written statement forms, operational considerations, regulatory considerations, and use of return reason codes, and the implications for not following proper compliance procedures. If you are unsure of how to handled extended returns or just need a refresher this is the course for you!
