Session Description:
The Rules are set out as a “how-to” guide. Understanding how the Rules pertain to odd exceptions requires RDFIs to understand the Rule in its entirety. This session will thoroughly examine specific exceptions for the form of Authorization, the intended Receiver, and the difference between consumer and non-consumer forms of authorization. The session will also review an Entries life cycle from authorization through potential non-compliance with the Rules and explain additional steps RDFIs can use to resolve their exception. Finally, it will look at exceptions beyond the Rules by connecting the dots to real-life transactions.
Please note, this session will not address Government Entries; there are other specific sessions for Notice of Reclamations and DNEs.
Attendees will leave the session with an understanding of:
- Options when responding to unusual exception situations,
- The life-cycle of a transaction from authorization through Rules Compliance, as well as the proper use of SEC Codes,
- Defined steps for resolving exceptions outside of regular return time frames.
