Checks are primarily governed by the Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3 and 4 and Regulation CC; but just like the other payment rails, there’s more to it. Checks have network rules too – clearing through the Federal Reserve is also governed by Regulation J and Operating Circular 3; check clearing through ECCHO is governed by the ECCHO Rules. The FFIEC provides guidance for remote deposit capture. Understanding how these rules, regulations, and laws impact check processing is critical to your financial institution’s check compliance. In this beginner-level session, attendees will receive an overview of how these rules, regs, and laws create a framework for check compliance.
